Reflection

Reflection is a research lab founded in March 2024 by Misha Laskin (led reward modeling on DeepMind's Gemini) and Ioannis Antonoglou (co-created AlphaGo). It trains large open-weight foundation models and releases the weights publicly, so anyone can download, fine-tune, and deploy them. Its first commercial product, Asimov, is a coding agent for enterprise software teams that indexes codebases, GitHub discussions, Jira tickets, and architecture docs to reason across broad engineering context — not just retrieve snippets. Revenue comes from enterprise licenses ($15K–$25K/user/year, per Sacra) and sovereign/government deployments. The company positions itself as the American open-model alternative to both closed Western labs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and Chinese open models (DeepSeek). It has signed enormous compute deals to train at frontier scale but has not yet publicly released a foundation model as of mid-2026.
