Ricursive Intelligence is an AI research lab in Palo Alto that uses artificial intelligence to design computer chips. Traditional chip design takes large teams of engineers two to three years and hundreds of millions of dollars per chip. Ricursive is building AI models that automate the entire chip design flow — from the architecture through digital logic (RTL), verification, and physical layout — with the goal of compressing that timeline from years to weeks. The company is not selling into the traditional Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tool market. Instead, it plans to design custom chips end-to-end for customers who want their own silicon but don't have in-house chip teams. The first wave of customers are companies that need workload-specific chips optimized for AI models, especially large language models (LLMs). The founders' bigger vision is a "recursive" loop where AI designs better chips, those chips train better AI, and the cycle repeats — with Ricursive eventually using AI to design its own silicon that runs its own models. The founders, Anna Goldie (CEO) and Azalia Mirhoseini (CTO), are former Google Brain and Anthropic researchers who created AlphaChip, the AI system Google used to design several generations of its TPU chips. Buyers of Ricursive's future output would be hyperscalers, AI model labs, and any company that wants custom AI accelerators but can't afford the traditional design process.
