SkyPilot is a San Francisco-based startup that lets AI teams run workloads across any cloud, cluster, or GPU provider through a single control plane. Instead of managing separate setups for AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, CoreWeave, Nebius, and a dozen Kubernetes clusters, teams submit jobs once and SkyPilot routes them to the cheapest or most available hardware automatically. The commercial platform (SkyPilot Platform) adds GPU health monitoring, automated failure recovery, high availability, team/quota management, SSO, and SOC 2 compliance on top of its open-source foundation. It handles training, inference, reinforcement learning, evaluations, and multi-cluster production serving. The software came out of the Sky Computing Lab at UC Berkeley, and the founding team includes Databricks co-founder Ion Stoica and CEO Zongheng Yang. The company emerged from stealth in July 2026. Its core thesis: GPU supply is scarce and fragmented, so the team that can efficiently pool compute across every provider wins — the "Switzerland of AI compute."
