TerraFirma builds and operates semi-autonomous heavy construction equipment — excavators, dozers, loaders, rollers — retrofitted with its own sensors, software, and a proprietary "Mission Control" remote command center. Rather than selling robots to contractors, TerraFirma acts as the contractor itself: it takes on earthworks and site development projects (clearing, grading, excavation, demolition) and executes them with its own fleet and operators. Skilled operators run multiple machines at once from screens instead of sitting in individual cabs, which the company claims makes each operator up to 3x more productive. Founded in 2024 by two former SpaceX engineers who built infrastructure at Starbase, TerraFirma is vertically integrated across pre-construction software, robotics hardware, and field operations. Current customers span housing, energy, transportation, and manufacturing; it also holds undisclosed U.S. government contracts for international infrastructure. Long-term, the founders want to take the same technology to the Moon and Mars.
