Varda Space Industries builds and operates small, fully autonomous reentry capsules called W-Series vehicles that go to low Earth orbit, process materials in microgravity, and return to Earth. The company manufactures everything in-house: the satellite bus, the capsule, the C-PICA heat shield, and the pharmaceutical processing payload. In orbit, microgravity enables drug crystallization and biologics formulation that cannot be replicated on Earth, producing higher-purity or better-structured compounds. After weeks in orbit, the capsule reenters the atmosphere and lands, delivering processed drugs or hypersonic reentry test data. Two paying customer verticals exist today: biopharma companies (e.g., United Therapeutics) that pay to have drugs processed in space, and the U.S. government (AFRL) that uses the capsule as a hypersonic reentry testbed. Varda is vertically integrated, builds in El Segundo, CA, and rides SpaceX Transporter rideshares to orbit.
